October 16th, 2024

From 12th to 14th October 2024, the Society of Medical Students of Thailand under the Royal Patronage of Professor Dr. Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Krom Phra Srisavangavadhana (SMST), in collaboration with the School of Medicine, Walailak University, organised a Community Development Volunteer Camp. The camp aimed to promote public health, improve the quality of life for local residents, ensure access to standardised healthcare services, and raise awareness of the importance of maintaining good health.

During the camp, participating medical students visited Nopphitam District in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province to engage with local communities. The students visited homes, learned about the local healthcare system, and gathered information on common diseases in the area. They also brainstormed solutions to address community health issues. Additionally, senior medical students and professors from Walailak University provided health screenings and physical fitness tests for community members at the Ban Talat Rong Lek Subdistrict Health Promoting Hospital. The camp also offered activities to help students learn about local culture and lifestyles, which took place at the Community Enterprises Development for Ecotourism of Ton Nam Klay and participate in planting mangrove forests at the Ban Laem Homestay in Tha Sala District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province.
