The Sport and Exercise Science Program, School of Medicine, Walailak University, has officially launched the “Elderly Health Promotion Project through Sports Science.” This initiative focuses on developing sustainable health management models specifically tailored to local community contexts.
Strategic Implementation Across 4 Districts in Nakhon Si Thammarat: The project is led by a team of expert researchers who are actively conducting field operations across four key districts: Tha Sala, Sichon, Pak Phanang, and Ron Phibun.
Multidimensional Integration for Maximum Stakeholder Benefit: The implementation emphasizes a participatory approach, engaging stakeholders at all levels to ensure the research can be practically applied within the community. Key collaborators include elderly residents within the communities, community health volunteers, local administrative organizations, and district public health offices.
Research Funding and Methodology: The National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) supports this project under Strategy 2, Program 9. The research team is in the initial phase, which entails the evaluation of literature, the analysis of public health reports, and the facilitation of focus group discussions.
Field surveys are also being conducted to assess the baseline health status, lifestyle behaviors, and physical fitness of the elderly. The data gathered will be used to design specialized health promotion programs that directly address the community’s needs, ultimately aiming to foster a healthy and resilient aging society in the future.
