Assoc.Prof.Dr. Udomsak Saengow Presents Research at the KBS 2026 International Conference in Lithuania

June 7th, 2026

Assoc.Prof.Dr. Udomsak Saengow, a faculty member in the Department of Medical Sciences, School of Medicine, presented his research at the 51st Annual Symposium of the Kettil Bruun Society (KBS) for Social and Epidemiological Research on Alcohol, held from 1–5 June 2026 at Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas, Lithuania.

During the symposium, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Udomsak presented his research in the session “Students Drinking: Prevalence, Patterns and Consequences” under the title “Association between student-led “Drink Less” campaign recall and change in alcohol consumption”. The study analyzed survey data from 852 university students who reported alcohol consumption across 16 Thai universities participating in the University Network for UN-ALC project, supported by the Thai Health Promotion Foundation. The findings revealed that 78.6% of students were aware of alcohol-reduction activities conducted on their campuses, while 57.0% recognized the campaign slogan. However, no statistically significant association was found between campaign awareness or slogan recognition and reductions in alcohol consumption. These findings suggest that while awareness-raising campaigns are important, they may not be sufficient on their own to produce meaningful behavioral changes in alcohol use among university students.

In addition to presenting his research, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Udomsak was invited to serve as a discussant in the “Women and Alcohol” session, where he provided expert commentary on two studies examining alcohol consumption among women at different stages of life, including during pregnancy and the perimenopausal period. He offered academic feedback to the research teams, particularly regarding statistical analysis and the presentation of findings, helping to strengthen the scientific impact of their work.

His participation in KBS 2026 highlights the research excellence of the School of Medicine, Walailak University, and demonstrates its commitment to advancing knowledge and engaging in scholarly exchange with researchers from around the world. Such international engagement contributes to the expansion of research collaborations and the continued development of high-quality research networks.
