Advancing international clinical excellence, Dr. Phatcharaporn Thepsuwan, a surgeon and faculty member at Walailak University, recently completed a specialized one-month medical elective at Toho University Medical Center Omori Hospital in Tokyo, Japan.
Hosted by Toho’s renowned Colorectal Surgery Unit, Dr. Phatcharaporn’s program focused heavily on cutting-edge minimally invasive technologies, specifically centering on robotic surgery observations. Under the close supervision of Japan’s leading surgical specialists, she engaged in advanced practice simulations and optimized procedural workflows. The exchange also served as a dynamic platform for bilateral academic synergy, allowing both institutions to share clinical ideas, compare retrospective outcomes, and discuss innovative surgical techniques.
Beyond the operating room, the program fostered deep cultural immersion. Dr. Phatcharaporn experienced traditional Japanese culture firsthand through warm lunch gatherings and welcoming dinner sessions. These shared moments offered a delightful taste of local hospitality, building meaningful personal connections alongside professional ones.
The specialized insights and collaborative ideas gained from Toho Medical Center will significantly enrich the clinical training of Walailak University medical students and further drive the university’s surgical research initiatives.
