On March 14, 2026, third-year students from the Applied Thai Traditional Medicine program, together with members from the School of Medicine at Walailak University, participated in a herbal plant exploration trekking activity as part of the Thai Traditional Pharmacy course. The activity took place at Karom Waterfall, located within Khao Luang National Park in Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand.

The program aimed to provide students with hands-on learning experiences beyond the classroom by allowing them to study herbal plants directly in their natural habitat. During the activity, students received informative lectures and guidance from national park officials alongside faculty members from the Applied Thai Traditional Medicine program. The sessions focused on identifying various plant species, understanding the characteristics of local herbal plants, and learning about their traditional medicinal uses.

Students also had the opportunity to observe the ecological environment where these herbs grow, gaining deeper insight into the biodiversity of the forest ecosystem. This field-based learning approach helped students better understand the physical characteristics of medicinal plants—including their leaves, stems, aromas, and natural habitats—which are essential for the preparation and application of traditional Thai herbal remedies.

In addition to academic knowledge, the activity encouraged students to appreciate the importance of conserving natural resources and preserving the rich heritage of Thai traditional medicine. Experiencing real-world herbal resources in a protected natural environment reinforces the connection between traditional wisdom and modern healthcare education.

Lastly, We would like to express sincere gratitude to the officials of Khao Luang National Park and all related personnel for their support in facilitating this educational field activity, which provided valuable learning experiences for the students.
