The participants included students from Medicine, Medical Technology, and Physical Therapy programs, who collaborated in interdisciplinary teams. Through active learning activities and knowledge exchange with international students, they enhanced both their academic and practical competencies.

Throughout the program, students engaged in a variety of activities, including:

  • Case discussions to strengthen analytical thinking within healthcare teams
  • A campus visit to Shirokane Campus, the university’s main campus
  • Workshops and hands-on training sessions, such as laparoscopic simulation
  • Observational study visits in real operating rooms, learning about patient care in the Japanese healthcare context

In addition, students attended lectures by world-renowned experts and explored significant scientific discoveries, including the work of Nobel laureate Satoshi Omura, who discovered Streptomyces avermitilis, leading to the development of Ivermectin—an important drug used globally to treat parasitic diseases.

The program also emphasized cultural understanding through cultural exchange activities and collaboration with students from diverse backgrounds. These experiences helped students develop essential soft skills such as communication, teamwork, and leadership in an international context.

On the final day, students delivered group presentations summarizing their knowledge and experiences, while reflecting on interprofessional collaboration in healthcare systems. Participation in this Global Camp not only enhanced academic skills but also inspired students with new perspectives as they prepare to become globally competent healthcare professionals. This achievement reflects Walailak University’s strong commitment to internationalization and to preparing its students for future roles in the global healthcare system.
