June 16, 2026

The Sport and Exercise Science Program, School of Medicine, Walailak University, successfully carried out the “Community Wellbeing Promotion Project for the Thasala Sub-district Municipality Elderly Club and Sichon Sub-district Communities (Year 3)” throughout April and May 2026. This initiative aims to deliver social engagement by integrating academic services with teaching and research to foster sustainable health and wellbeing, closely aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals: SDGs 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDGs 4 (Quality Education), and SDGs 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).

In its third consecutive year, faculty members and students engaged with local communities through four primary workshops and health assessment activities:

  • April 29, 2026: An educational workshop was conducted for the community. Lecturer Bulin Jirapongasatorn presented on “Physical Activity for Promoting Wellbeing in the Elderly,” highlighting tailored movement techniques to enhance cardiovascular health. Concurrently, Lecturer Arisa Setpeng delivered a lecture on “Exercising in the Summer,” offering vital guidelines for safe physical activity during high-temperature conditions.
  • May 8, 2026: A seminar titled “Office Syndrome and Daily Life for the Elderly” was led by Lecturer Ratchaya Supaluck and Lecturer Naparat Doungchan. The session provided the elderly with practical knowledge on ergonomics and posture adjustment to prevent and alleviate daily musculoskeletal discomfort.
  • May 26, 2026: The team relocated to the Sichon Sub-district Municipality Auditorium, Nakhon Si Thammarat, to host two main sessions:
    • Pakhaoma Yoga Workshop: A demonstration and practical session utilizing traditional local cloths (Pakhaoma) for stretching, reducing muscle tension, and preventing injuries. Participants were also trained in utilizing exercise equipment and were gifted resistance bands and hand massage balls to support continuous muscle strengthening at home.
      • Proactive Physical Fitness Testing: The team extended its reach to the local migrant worker population and general patrons at the Tevada Market. The initiative provided comprehensive physical fitness assessments and personalized health advice, expanding inclusive healthcare coverage to all demographic groups in the area.

The Sports Science and Exercise Program, School of Medicine, Walailak University, expresses its sincere gratitude to the Sichon Sub-district Municipality Office and Tevada Market for providing the venues, as well as to all community stakeholders for their invaluable collaboration in driving this project toward a healthier and sustainable future.
