Participation of Walailak University Medical Students in the ”Rural Development Volunteer Camp”

Two first-year medical students from Walailak University, Thanaporn Lakban and Pitchayapa Mueangjaila, members of the project team for the 1st Rural Development Volunteer Camp, Academic Year 2023, actively participated in the volunteer camp held at the Medical Education Center, Maharat Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital, from November 25th to 26th, 2023. During the camp, the students had the opportunity to closely observe the clinical practices of physicians and engage in home visits to patients in the Sikhio District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province, under the supervision of senior clinical medical students and faculty physicians. Additionally, they explored Nakhon Ratchasima Province through visits to the Khorat Fossil Museum and the Lamtakong Jolabha Vadhana Power Plant to gain a deeper understanding of the area.
This volunteer camp project is organized by the Student Association of the Collaborative Project to Increase Production of Rural Doctors, Mahidol University, in collaboration with the Faculty of Medicine, Praboromarajchanok Institute, and the Society of Medical Students of Thailand (SMST). The objective is to raise awareness about the importance of healthcare in rural communities. This activity reflects the core values of medical and military medical students, aiding them in recognizing their own worth, understanding the context of rural doctors, and realizing their roles in collaborative efforts within the healthcare profession.
